Frenectomies

Before Your Visit

To ensure a smooth visit, we have created a checklist of tasks and items to complete before your appointment.

1. Fill out the forms before the appointment

You should have received an email or text with the link to the online forms. Please fill out the online forms to expedite the process.
If you prefer to print out the registration forms or fill out at the office please arrive 10 minutes early.  If your infant is covered under your dental insurance, contact your insurance company to find out if the plan has frenectomy coverage (provide dental code D7961 and/or D7962).

2. Review the Frenectomy Home Care Packet

This packet includes helpful information to make sure you are prepared for the procedure. It is important that you familiarize yourself with the post-frenectomy stretching exercises and the medication lists and remedies. If your child is in daycare, it is very important that you discuss and coordinate aftercare beforehand.

3. Prepare Medications for Post-Op Discomfort

It is best to give pain medications to your child either 30-60 minutes before the procedure or no more than 4 hours after.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 160 mg/5mL Strength

6-8 pounds: 1.25 mL
8-10 pounds: 1.50 mL
10-12 pounds: 2.00 mL
12-15 pounds: 2.50 mL
15-20 pounds: 3.00 mL
20-25 pounds: 4.00 mL

Ibuprofen (50mg/1.25 mL Strength)
OK to give every 6 hours as needed.

12-15 pounds: 1.25 mL
12-20 pounds: 1.50mL
20-25 pounds: 2.00 mL
25-30 pounds: 2.50 mL

Arnica Montana 30C
Prepare solution by dissolving 10 pellets in 2-3 oz. of water or breast milk.
Give 2 ml every 1-2 hours.  OK to give every 15 minutes when very fussy.

4. What to bring to the appointment

If you plan to bottlefeed after the procedure, we advise that you have the bottle prepared beforehand.

We ask that parents try not to feed their baby 60 minutes before the procedure, since a hungry baby goes to the breast or bottle better immediately following procedure, and eating comforts baby.
